I've seen and participated in some very interesting discussions about session ettiquette on other forums, so thought it would be interesting to get some other points of view here.

It seems by listening the points of views of others that some sessions are becoming more exclusive and less inclusive.    I think there is an element of truth in this, but also wonder if it hasn't always been the case.

Some sessions are open to all who happen to turn up, where others take a little bit more effort to break in to.

Of course there is no need for bad manners or unwelcoming behaviour, but some good sessions can be spoiled by intruders who play outwith their ability.  Similarily, some good or professional players can come in and spoil a session by using it as a stage to showoff without any consideration of the other players.

Another factor which seems to cause unnecessary divides at sessions is the rivalry/ intolerance between the singers and the sing-nots!  But perhaps thats another topic altogether Smiley

Great program on TV last night, Billy Connolly's tour of England (first shown in 2002 I think), where he visited Northumberland and Newcastle.   He made a visit to the Woodhorn Colliery at Ashington and revealed some great things at the museum there, with lots of information on the area's mining history.  One of the most interesting things was the art collection displayed there painted by the pitmen themselves.    It seems the museum may have been upgraded since the program was first broadcast - here is a link to the website: http://www.experiencewoodhorn.com/index.html

Im glad to be one of the first to post on this new forum, and wish it all the success for the future.

I thought I'd open a discussion about Nothumbrian music.    It seems to me, being from Scotland, that there are not enough Northumbrian musicians being heard or getting the recognition they should.   What Northumbrian musicians are there currently playing professionally? (other than Kathryn Tickell and Lynn Tocker?)

Traditional music in the UK does seem to be very divided, with Scottish artists playing regularly in Scotland but not in England, and likewise, English acts playing more in England and rarely being heard of in Scotland.   To my shame, I couldn't even tell you of any folk/ trad musicians from Wales!   Ireland on the other hand obviously transcends this.
